Hailed by jazz great Terence Blanchard as, “One of the brightest stars playing the piano to come along in a long time and has the promise of being at the top of the curve changing our minds about music,” Israeli born and Australia raised, Tal Cohen’s joins the Black Cat for a weekend residency. His latest album, “The Art Of The Duo, Vol. One,” is a collaboration with trumpeter John Daversa.
Cohen and his band will be joined on Friday and Saturday by Grammy and Downbeat Critics Poll-winning saxophonist Wayne Escoffery. A part of the Mingus Big Band, Escoffery has performed internationally with a who’s who in jazz including Ron Carter, Ben Riley, Abdulah Ibrahim, Eric Reed, Carl Allen, Al Foster, Billy Hart, Eddie Henderson, Rufus Reid, Wallace Roney, Randy Brecker and Herbie Hancock.
