Black Cat JAZZ@theEDGE is proud to present a five-night residency by Sounds of Tel Aviv.
Transplanted from Israel to NYC, this fierce ensemble deftly explore and weave all the familiar sounds of jazz — funk, hard bop, R&B — into their own middle eastern influenced and unique sound, rhythm and vibe. Led by saxophonist Asa Even Zur, this “Tel Aviv Jazz Collective” explores he sounds of Israeli jazz with a global sensibility.

Band Bios
Alon Benjamini – drums
A graduate of the jazz department at Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts & The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music, Alon currently lives in New York. He has collaborated with elite musicians around the world, like Reggie Workman, Avishai Cohen, Gilad Hekselman, Takeshi Ohbayashi, Eli Degibri, Yotam Silberstein, Omer Avital & more.
Guy Moskovich – piano
26 year old Guy Moskovich has established himself as an in-demand pianist and composer in both Israel and New York City. He has performed and recorded with the likes of Avishai Cohen, Omer Avital, Dayna Stephens and Mike Rodriguez in venues and festivals all around the world.
Asaf Even Zur – tenor sax
Born and raised in Tel Aviv, Asaf Even Zur compositions are greatly influenced by synesthesia – a perceptual phenomenon
that causes the brain to process data through several senses at once. He plays with characters and storylines, colors, smells and pictures, aiming to take you on a journey through the senses where you will encounter the familiar and be
exposed to the strange. With Sounds of Tel Aviv, Asaf presents his own interpretation of jazz, based on a strong foundation
and understanding of the legacy that allows the band to explore improvisation as one unit. He earned a BFA from the renowned New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC, where he studied with Billy Harper, Jane Ira Bloom and
Myron Walden.
Edo Gur – trumpet
A soloist with the Young Israeli Philharmonic in his early days, Edo now lives in NYC and has performed with Jazz masters like Billy Harper and Reggie Workman. The New School University alum joined the band of Grammy-nominated Gnawa artist Samir Langus, recorded and performed with the Omer Avital Septet, and has played in famous venues including Smalls Jazz Club, Lincoln Center, The Django, Joe’s Pub at the Public Theatre, The 75 Club, Symphony Space, Bar Lunatico, Barbes, Minton’s Playhouse and 55 Bar.
Pera Krstajic – bass
Krstajić is a Berklee College of Music grad who combines electronic music with jazz and Serbian folk, whose
work celebrates the beauty of his native Serbia. In 2018, he has won a Grand Prize in the Lee Ritenour’s Six String Theory Competition and has performed and/or recorded with stars like David Binney, Terry Lyne Carrington, David Fiuczynski, Marko Djordjvic, Tim Miller, Darren Barret, Mark Walker, and Jacques Scwarz- Bart. His original projects include Qzama Quartet and his own band, Pera Krstajic’s Epiphany.
Dana Herz – vocals
Dana Herz is an NYC-based, Israeli vocalist and composer, currently working on her debut album creating unique layers of sounds from R&B, Soul, Jazz, and Folk. She has dedicated years to exploring the human voice and its power to heal and connect people. Herz also currently leads her own band and has performed her original music in some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in Europe, Israel, and the United States, including WOMAD festival, The Troubadour London, Le Poisson Rouge NYC, and others.
