DJ Velez (aka Cloud One) is a Jersey Cat with a Philly Soul. Velez’s vibe is rooted in his personal connection with the NJ underground hip hop scene, including Uni V. Sol, and his lifelong relationship with Ebony’s lead singer David Beasley. With a strong hip hop connection, Velez’s soul definitely belongs to the jazz tradition — having spent many years in the NYC jazz scene with percussion/beat masters like Christopher Brown. DJ Velez has curated a sexy, sophisticated and eclectic collection of tracks and blends exclusively for Black Cat: “Bridging the Gap!” This special Black Cat collection samples R&B, soul, funk, hip hop, afrobeat, and house, all tied together by the common thread of jazz. Velez has set the stage at Black Cat for hot cats including Casey Benjamin/Robert Glasper Experiment and Kassa Overall.
