Part 1: The Jazz Hang

The ultimate jazz hang, presented by vocalist Lilan Kane, will feature a who’s who of the San Francisco jazz scene. Lilan Kane will open the show, the band will do their thing, and it will likely turn into an epic jam session by the end of the night. With Mike Olmos on trumpet, Geechi Taylor on trumpet and drums, saxophonist Howard Wiley also doubling on drums, pianist Adam Shulman, and upright bassist Marcus Shelby, and rising star vocalist Tiffany Austin, plus many special guests and a jam session, jazz lovers and music appreciators alike, will not want to miss this night!

Tiffany Austin is a rising jazz star. Widely hailed as one of the best jazz debut albums of 2015, her self-released Nothing But Soul made quite a splash, including sterling reviews in Downbeat and on NPR’s “Fresh Air.” Her eagerly awaited follow-up, Unbroken, confirms the Bay Area vocalist’s status as one of jazz’s elite singers and a formidable songwriter as well.

Marcus Shelby is a composer, arranger, band leader, bassist, and educator who has recorded with artists as diverse as Ledisi and Tom Waits. With a plethora of accolades and musical contributions, he has led the Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra since 2001 and is currently an artist in residence with the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival. He is also the new resident artist director for the San Francisco Jazz Festival 2019-2020. Shelby has served on the San Francisco Arts Commission since 2013.

Geechi Taylor is a premier trumpeter, instructor, and educator, who commands respect in all of his areas of concentration. He is known mostly for his work as a sideman for top bands, playing musical styles that range from Classical, Be-Bop to Pop. He has toured, performed or recorded with Miss Lauryn Hill, Patrice Rushen, Slick Rick, Delfeyo Marsalis, Goapele, Ndugu Chancler, Jennifer Holiday, Mike Phillips, Zion I, Jackie Payne, and many more.

Lilan Kane is a jazz and soul vocalist who has sold out shows at Yoshis and SFJAZZ. Her vintage-tinged sound flows through her original compositions as well as her tender take on timeless cover songs, always with her own twist. She is graduate of Berklee College of Music and has performed throughout the states including the Concord Pavillion, The Whisky A Go Go (LA), Minton’s Playhouse (NYC), The French Quarter Festival (New Orleans) and more. She has opened for Hall & Oates, Sharon Jones, Pete Escovedo, The Doobie Brothers, Morgan James and others.
