Johnny O’Neal almost stands alone as a world-class pianist AND a world-class vocalist. Piano legend Mulgrew said: “Johnny has a Million Dollar touch on the piano! One of a kind.” Recently Johnny sold out a weeklong residency in Chicago. A rave Chicago Tribune review exclaimed: “If Johnny O’Neal didn’t play the piano, he would rank as one of the more compelling vocalists in jazz. If he didn’t sing a note, he would stand as one of the most accomplished pianists in jazz. That he happens to do both at such a heightened level makes him a dramatically effective performer!”
Johnny has played with the great masters of the music: Clark Terry, Ray Brown, Sonny Stitt and Milt Jackson, to name a few. His fabled history includes a stint as a Jazz Messenger with the renowned Art Blakey in the ’80s and an appearance as Art Tatum in the blockbuster 2004 movie about Ray Charles “Ray”.
“If you haven’t caught Johnny O’Neal, you really should.”– Jazztimes Journal
