Leaning towards ethereal sides of jazz & funk, Doug Stuart draws inspiration from West Coast spiritual and psychedelic jazz artists such as Lonnie Listen Smith, Alice Coltrane, and Pharoah Sanders. An accomplished session musician, producer and composer, Stuart has toured internationally and composes music for the NPR show Snap Judgment, featuring his band Bells Atlas.
A Chicago native, Doug was immersed from an early age in the city’s rich jazz community. After studying bass with jazz legends Robert Hurst and Geri Allen at Michigan, he moved to Berkeley in 2009.
