These two jazz icons are members of The Cookers.  Billy Harper (saxophone) has performed with the greatest jazz legends of all times including Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, Max Roach and McCoy Tyner, in addition to his own long illustrious career as a band leader.  As a recording artist, Billy Harper’s album “Black Saint” exploded on the international jazz scene. The reviews applauded his innovations and prompted the Modern Jazz League of Tokyo to name the album “Jazz Record of the Year — Voice Grand Prix.”  David Weiss (trumpet) regularly performs at all the major jazz venues in NYC. He founded “The New Jazz Composers Octet”, a group dedicated to innovation in jazz. Weiss has distinguished himself by finding flexibility and innovation in music that has its roots in the mainstream.  His skills have been finely honed by touring and recording with many of the quintessential jazz figures including Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Billy Hart, Tom Harrell and others.
