David Ambrosio possesses an unerring sense of groove that’s as powerful as jazz legend Dave Holland’s. For many years, Ambrosio has been one of New York City’s finest freelance musicians and educators. His current projects as a leader include CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE: Blue Note Records in the Progressive 60’s, featuring Grammy nominated saxophonist Donny McCaslin and drumming legend Victor Lewis; The Dave Ambrosio Quartet featuring the powerful horn front line of Tim Hagans and Joel Frahm; and the David Ambrosio Trio featuring saxophonist Loren Stillman.
Bassist Ambrosio and drummer Russ Meissner have been and in-demand New York rhythm section for almost two decades, the driving force behind saxophonist Matt Renzi, pianist Eri Yamamoto and many others. “Moments in Time”, their debut album for Steeplechase’s LookOut imprint, is a collection of interactive, open-textured originals by both men designed to lead an adventurous band into the less-visited spaces of contemporary New York post-bop. The music transports listeners to places that feel totally new while at the same time comfortable and accessible.
David has played with jazz giants and at major festivals and venues across the globe.
