Oakland jazz and soul vocalist Lilan Kane returns to the Black Cat stage with a night of Nancy Wilson tunes. Paying tribute to one of her favorite song stylists, Lilan will put her own twist on Nancy classics. Lilan recently completed an East Coast tour with shows in NYC, Boston, and Philadelphia. Backed by her dynamic band, she has sold out notable venues including Yoshi’s Jazz Club and SFJAZZ. She’s a member of the legendary Pete Escovedo Latin Jazz Orchestra and has opened for music greats including Hall & Oates, Lenny Williams, Freddie Hughes, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, Sharon Jones, Trombone Shorty, and Morgan James.
Lilan’s vintage-tinged soul sound flows through her heartfelt compositions, telling stories of love, loss, and self-discovery. Her unique personal style seamlessly blends jazz, R&B, funk, and pop. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Lilan studied with Grammy award winning vocal arranger Donna McElroy and drummer/arranger Kenwood Dennard. She has a full-length album “Love, Myself” and EP “Wonder” produced by Michael Aaberg (Lalah Hathaway, Goapele) which received a song placement with Rope-A-Dope Records. She recently released the EP “Shadows”, a collaboration with Cosa Nostra Strings of the Jazz Mafia family. Her original song Shadows, was performed by the Monday Night Big Band at SFJAZZ, arranged by Adam Theis.
Other performances include Concord Pavillion, San Jose Jazz Festival, The Mint LA, New Orleans French Quarter Festival, Minton’s Playhouse (NYC), Chris’ Jazz Cafe (Philly), SOUTH (Philly), West End (NYC), Wally’s Cafe (Boston), Whisky A Go-Go (LA), Fillmore Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival, the Great American Music Hall, and more.
