Ken Fowser turns the heads and ignites the imaginations and passions of jazz fans and jazz critics alike! And he usually gets them swinging. He embodies the rhythms of his Philadelphia birthplace: Jimmy Heath, Coltrane, Lee Morgan, McCoy Tyner and others…a collective spark that has fueled his performances in NYC and on numerous recordings. He has developed a reputation as one of the finest tenor saxophonists of his generation, says Posi-Tone Records. His third and latest album as a leader, “Don’t Look Down” showcases his trifecta of talents as a musician, band leader and composer. As a leader, he is emotionally engaging, uplifting and charismatically entertaining. As a musician, his style is rich and full bodied, and committed to swing. As a composer, he honors the strong traditions of jazz but finds his own unique balance of modernity and classic aesthetics, forging a melodic sound that is insightfully straight forward and steadily swinging. Fowser comes to Black Cat fresh off a european tour which took him to the top clubs in Rome, Paris and Amsterdam. He regularly hits the stages of NYC’s top jazz venues including SMOKE, Smalls and Django. He is joined by a collective of all stars.
